Conductor

Sam Gardner’s choral career started as a chorister at Canterbury Cathedral at the age of 7. He then moved to St Peter’s Harrogate, where he was taught to conduct by Phillip Wilby. Sam read music at the University of York, tackling works by LeFanu, Copland and Holst, and led workshops for schools with his own Jazz Choir as well directing and assisting in numerous department ensembles. More recently, Sam has completed a Performance Practice MA in choral conducting with Peter Seymour, where he specialised in the English Restoration period, Mozart and Britten. Since leaving university, Sam has become Assistant Director of the Yorkshire Youth Choir, is an associate director with the Szczepek Ensemble, has undertaken workshops with the National Youth Choir, and is Assistant Conductor at the Chapter House Choir in York and York Opera.
